A Uitenhage woman who claimed to have been robbed of her smartphone while taking selfies has appeared in court on a charge of perjury.
Police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, said 31-year-old Nolubabalo Gula appeared in the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
She said Gula laid a complaint with the police last Thursday, saying that she had been robbed in Central, Uitenhage, by an unknown man while she was taking selfies.
However, Swart said further investigations revealed that the "cell phone was never stolen and was still being used by the same complainant".
Gula was arrested on Monday but released on warning.
She will be back in court again on 6 March.
