A Port Elizabeth police member allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend after which he committed suicide using his service fire arm on Tuesday night.
The bodies of Constable Momelezi Mpanza, 34, and Miss Ntobasinda Ngube, 33, were found at a house in Nomjila Street, Kwazakele shortly after three shots were heard.
Neighbours reportedly heard sounds but thought they were fireworks.
Police spokesman, Captain Andre Beetge, said the service pistol of Constable Mpanza, who was stationed at the PE Airport, was found next to his body in the bedroom.
The body of his girlfriend was found in the kitchen.
Murder and inquest dockets were opened.
