Police in Grahamstown are searching for three men who broke into a house in Vukani and terrorised the occupants in the early hours of Saturday morning
Spokesperson Captain Mali Govender says a woman in her thirties and four young girls between the ages of 8 and 19 were sleeping when the suspects broke into their home and asked for money.
The older woman was beaten with a hammer, raped, strangled and left for dead, before they tied up the 15 year old and stabbed her in the head.
The other girls were not harmed but are extremely traumatized.
The Cluster commander for Grahamstown police Brigadier Vakala Moyake expressed her shock at this incident and established a task team to find the perpetrators.
Police are still at the scene of the crime gathering evidence
The suspects are wanted for murder, robbery attempted murder and rape.
