Uitenhage police have released the name of the elderly woman who was found murdered in her home on Thursday morning.
Police Spokesperson Sergeant Majola Nkohli identified her as the 90-year-old Hester Rudman.
Rudman's lifeless body was found at the entrance of her bedroom with a stab wound to her chest.
Nkohli says a neighbour that was walking past her house in Lange Street, Penford, noticed a gate and a door that were standing open at around 9 o'clock on Thursday morning.
The neighbour became suspicious when there was no response and went inside where she discovered the body.
At this stage, the motive for the attack is unknown and no arrests have been made.
