A 27-year-old man is due to appear in the Peddie Magistrate's court on Monday on charges of the attempted murder and rape of his aunt and for possession of drugs. Port Alfred police cluster spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender says the suspect was arrested last week for the possession of dagga.
Further investigation revealed that he had been released into the care of an aunt pending the finalisation of a case of murder against him.
The murder had taken place recently at Tyefu outside Peddie.
Captain Govender says the investigating officers decided to visit the home of the suspect's aunt where they found the 55-year-old woman lying in a pool of blood. She had been stabbed multiple times and had also been raped.
Govender says the woman is in a critical condition in the Nompumelelo Hospital at Peddie.
