Police dog Max helps to nab two suspects in Gqeberha

SAPS

Gqeberha police have arrested a suspected cable thief and two housebreaking suspects.

Spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu says in the first incident, two K9 members were on foot patrol on Saturday at a spot where cable thieves frequently operate in Whyteleaf Drive in Algoa Park.

She says they noticed two men carrying an electrical cable, and when they noticed the members, they dropped the cable and started to run.

The police dog, Max was released and apprehended one suspect, while the other man managed to escape.

The 37-year-old suspect is being detained and is expected to appear in court soon on a charge in terms of the Criminal Matters Amendment Act - damage to essential infrastructure.

Colonel Naidu says later in the day, K9 members patrolling the airport area where cargo is being stored noticed that the boundary wall and the side door of the mechanical building were broken.

One person was seen running out of the building, and Max was again released and apprehended the suspect.

A second suspect was found hiding inside the building.

A metal box containing medical equipment was seized from the fleeing suspect.

Both men, aged 29 and 19 are expected to appear in court soon on charges of housebreaking and theft.
