Police crime intelligence operation leads to an arrest of five in Uitenhage

Five suspects aged between 22 and 34 were arrested at a house in Kwa-Nobuhle on Wednesday in a crime intelligence driven operation.

Uitenhage police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basil Seekoei says police were acting on information from the public and swooped on the house in Twalingca Street.

They seized 18 new cellphones valued at 15-thousand rand,  a 45 Automatic Colt Pistol with two rounds of ammunition and a white Ford Fiesta. It was established that the vehicle was hijacked in New Brighton in September.

Seekoei says further investigation led police to a house in Voisin Road, Gelvandale where they arrested a 22 year old man and seized a shotgun with 3 rounds of ammunition as well as 11 rounds of ammunition for a 9 mm pistol.

The suspects were also positively linked to a business robbery incident that took place in Kwa-Nobuhle a week ago.

The suspects will appear in Uitenhage Magistrates' Court soon on charges of business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and possession of stolen property.
