A police constable sustained head injuries during Wednesday violent service delivery protest action in Humansdorp.
Sergeant Majola Nkohli said the constable was treated at the Humansdorp Hospital after she was struck on the head with a stone.
Police used rubber bullets, stun grenades and teargas to disperse sporadic violent groups, but there are no arrests at this stage.
Cluster commander, Brigadier John Lebok, has condemned the protest which involved the stoning of vehicles and the destruction of public infrastructure.
Lebok said a case of tampering with, or damages to essential infrastructures; with additional charges of public violence and malicious damage to property was opened.
Motorists are advised to use an alternative gravel road, known as "Lombardini Road" until further notice.
