Suspect arrested twice in 10 days for dagga worth millions

Motherwell Police in Port Elizabeth have confiscated 21 bags of dagga, weighing 600 kilogrammes and with a street value of close on 1.5 million rands.

A 46-year-old suspect was arrested.

Captain Andre Beetge says members of the Motherwell Operational Command Centre swooped on a Toyota Quantum Panelvan in the early hours of Wednesday morning during a crime prevention operation in Zwide.

The panel van, valued at R400 000, was confiscated along with the dagga.

Captain Beetge says the arresting officers discovered that the 46-year-old suspect had been arrested 10 days ago in the Govan Mbeki area with R1.2 million rands worth of dagga in his possession.

However, he was released shortly after his arrest due to lack of evidence.

Now his luck appears to have run out and the suspect has been remanded in custody ahead of an appearance in the New Brighton Magistrate's Court on Thursday on a charge of dealing in dagga.
