More than 35 inquest cases relating to suicide have been opened across Nelson Mandela Bay over the last three months.
Police in Port Elizabeth are now expressing their concern at the annual increase seen in the suicide rate over the festive season.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the common age group is between 20 and 39-years-old.
She said in cases where persons were over the age of 60, it was established that most of them lived alone.
She added that in most instances across the city and surrounding areas, the person did not leave a suicide note.
Police have further urged parents, families, friends, and employees to be aware and informed about suicidal tendencies.
