Nelson Mandela Bay continues to be rocked by incidents of gender-based violence with the latest being the murder of a 16-year-old Port Elizabeth girl.
Her body was found on Thursday morning in the bushes between Gelvandale and Algoa Park.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said she had been stabbed several times, adding that a charge of rape could still be added later.
Colonel Naidu told AlgoaFM News on Friday that the young girl had yet to be identified and that there were still no arrests.
She said, however, that SAPS had received several calls from people looking for their missing children and that IDs were currently being done at the mortuary.
The discovery of the young woman's body comes barely a week after the charred remains of 37-year-old Salvana Seloane was found in Van Duuren Street in Gelvandale.
Colonel Naidu said a 27-year-old suspect was arrested soon after the incident, after a taxi driver alerted the police of a man walking without a t-shirt on, and who had scratch marks on his body and blood on his clothes.
Early in December, the Metro was also rocked by the gruesome murder of local attorney, 33-year-old Zaida Samodien, who had been stabbed to death.
The body of the heavily-pregnant mother was found on the N2 near Gamtoos Bridge Bridge after an alert truck driver called the police who arrested her husband, Rizaan Shinaaz.
He was due to make another court appearance on Thursday.
