A 45-year-old man has been arrested in Port Elizabeth for being in possession of mandrax tablets worth millions of rands.
Hawks provincial spokesperson, Captain Anelisa Feni, said that the suspect was arrested in Booysens Park on Thursday in a joint operation by the Serious Organised Crime wing of the Hawks and members of the K9 unit.
"He was found by police in possession of mandrax tablets worth just above R3 million," she said.
"On Thursday Hawks members received information from a reliable source concerning a vehicle transporting drugs to Port Elizabeth, the drugs were allegedly destined for Bethelsdorp.
A search of the vehicle ensued and was spotted in Gelvandale and it eventually pulled over in Booysens Park," Feni said.
"The team found the drugs hidden inside the bakkie," she said.
The 45-year-old man is due to appear before the New Law court in Port Elizabeth on Monday.
