Plett paedophile wants to appeal sentence after 17 months in jail

A 40-year-old computer engineer from Plettenberg Bay, who is currently in prison for child pornography, now wants to appeal his 15-year sentence.

William Beale was jailed in November 2017, after pleading guilty to more than 18 000 pornography charges.

He was sentenced three years after his high profile arrest.

Beale was the first South African to be arrested as part of an international investigation called Cloud 9.

The operation was responsible for cracking down on an international child pornography ring linked to a cyber meeting space for paedophiles whose fetishes seem to be the sexual abuse of babies.

Some of the images found included the torture and murder of babies as young as only a few days old.

According to the group Woman and Men Against Child abuse, the matter will be heard in front of two High Court Judges and the State will strongly oppose the appeal.
