Police in Mthatha have arrested two men, aged 36 and 38 after they assaulted a 35-year old Warrant Officer stationed at Bityi Police Station.
Spokesperson, Captain Dineo Koena says the two suspects also damaged the Sherif's vehicle at Chanti locality near Qunu.
Police members were safeguarding a Sheriff who was in the area to execute a Court Order, which authorised them to take livestock from one person to another.
Koena says during the execution of the court order, the Sheriff was obstructed by members of the community, who attacked police members who were trying to intervene.
One of the police officers was assaulted and he sustained injuries to the upper body.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital in a stable condition, where he was treated and discharged.
Two suspects were arrested, and they will appear in court on Friday on charges of assault, malicious damage to property, obstruction, defeating the ends of justice and disobeying a court order.
