Plett computer engineer makes 3rd court appearance for child porn

The 37-year-old local computer engineer, allegedly linked to a shocking international baby pornography network, appeared in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate's Court again on Tuesday.

This was his third appearance since his arrest on January 13 after a raid on his Plett home in the coastal holiday town following a joint investigation by Belgian and South African police.

He was tracked down by members of the Antwerp police child and sexual exploitation unit who found his internet address on an obscure chat room for alleged paedophiles with fetishes for the sexual abuse of babies in nappies.
The matter was postponed to June 17 and transferred to the Knysna Regional Court. The suspect, who cannot be named as he has not yet pleaded, is out on R10 000. The court extended his bail.

Several groups of children's rights activists, including the groups like Woman and Men Against Child Abuse (WMACA), Green Hearts of Plett and the ANC Women's League, protested outside the court building again yesterday.
Since the local man's arrest made headlines several marches, protests and petitions had been organised to take a stand against child pornography. Some of their demands include not granting bail to alleged paedophiles and harsher sentences for those found guilty of these crimes.
