The Bitou Municipality is in the process of restoring Plettenberg Bay Airport's License and returning CemAir's scheduled airline flights to the airport.

Bitou said in a statement on Thursday, that it will enter into a binding agreement with the airline, and engage with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), to manage the process of rectifying all identified areas of non-compliance.

Last month, the CAA downgraded the airport due to several non-compliance issues that were highlighted in the Audit Inspection reports.

This directly affected Cem-Air that offered flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town to Plett.

These flights are currently being diverted to George airport.

The Airport is crucial for the town's tourism sector.
