A 42-year-old man, from Cofimvaba in the Eastern Cape, has been arrested for the revenge murder of an elderly woman who bit his mother 25 years ago.
Police spokesperson, Captain Lariane Jonker, says the 80-year-old woman's body was discovered by neighbours on Wednesday morning.
She says they noticed that her house door was open and decided to enter.
Jonker says when the neighbours entered the house they saw the suspect and the deceased's body tied and wrapped with a blanket on the bed.
When the neighbours questioned the suspect, he told them that he had found the woman sleeping on her bed then he fled the scene.
The 42-year-old suspect then fled to his house and set it alight but was rescued by the Cofimvaba visible police members who then arrested him.
He revealed the motive of the murder was revenge after the deceased bit his mother in 1996 who then passed away three weeks later.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Cofimvaba Magistrates on Friday.
