Eastern Cape MEC for Human Settlements, Helen Sauls- August will meet with the Helenvale Community in Port Elizabeth on Monday, to present plans by the department to supply more housing in the densely populated area .
Department spokesperson, Lwandile Sicwetsha says many people arrived in Helenvale through forced removals by the Group Areas Act of 1970.
He says currently there are families with over 20 people residing in two-roomed houses.
Sicwetsha says the implementation of the plan will be fast tracked by using the Parsonsvlei land, which was recently acquired by the department, to ensure that the Helenvale community is offered an opportunity of a better life for all income groups.
He says the plan is to create a new neighborhood with medium and high rise density units.
