Pinetown crash: victims still unclaimed and unidentified

Four bodies from a crash that claimed the lives of 24 people in Pinetown almost three months ago are still in a Durban state mortuary unclaimed and unidentified.

Prosecutor Sibongiseni Mtetwa asked the Pinetown Magistrate's Court today for a postponement in the case against Sanele Goodness May, to allow police to identify the four victims and trace their relatives.

May faces 24 murder charges after his truck ploughed into four minibus taxis and two cars at an intersection at the bottom of Field's Hill on the M13 in Pinetown on the 5th of September.

Twenty-two people were killed on the scene and two later died of their injuries.

In granting the postponement, the court urged the State to complete investigations by the time May next appears in court on the 25th of February next year.
