PetroSA has confirmed a leak in one of its offshore pipelines in the vicinity of Nautilus Bay near Mossel Bay.
Spokesperson Thandi Nameka says the quantity of leaked material, and the extent of contamination is not yet known.
She says further investigative work is required to determine the exact location of the leak and define the appropriate repairs.
Nameka says public health and safety, as well as mitigating any environmental impact, are PetroSA's top priority, adding that there was no immediate threat to public health.
PetroSA will communicate further as the site assessment progresses, and the repair and remediation process unfolds.
