Petrol bombs thrown into closed PE bakery

Port Elizabeth police are investigating a case of attempted murder and arson after a petrol bomb attack at the Blue Ribbon Bakery in Walmer, on Wednesday morning.

Colonel Priscilla Naidu said it alleged that an unknown number of suspects threw three petrol bombs and fired two shots while a security guard was inside the premises.

Naidu said the security guard was not injured and there was no damage to the property.

Blue Ribbon Bakery recently closed shop after the Premier Food Group shut down production in the city to shift its focus to East London.

About 50 workers protested on Tuesday at the company's Korsten depot allegedly over the retrenchment package they were offered.

Naidu said that there is a possibility that the attack is linked to the protest.
