Beaufort West police have arrested a man for allegedly being in posession of 35 bags of perlemoen.
Police spokesperson, captain Bernadine Steyn, says vigilant members of the Beaufort West Vehicle Identification and Safeguarding Section, spotted a luxury German car passing through the town on Wednesday.
She says they tailed the vehicle and stopped it on the N-1 between Beaufort West and Three Sisters where police found more than 2,700 units of shucked perlemoen inside the boot and in a trailer.
Steyn says the 33-year-old suspect was en route from Cape Town to Johannesburg and will appear in court soon.
