Two young Port Elizabeth men are due to appear in court this morning charged with the theft of Buddy the penguin.
The men owned up to breaking into the Bayworld facility last week and stealing the three year old male penguin. They also told authorities that they had released Buddy into the ocean at Pollock Beach because they did not believe penguins should be kept in captivity.
Their actions were caught on CCTV at Bayworld.
Port Elizabeth police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, confirmed that the men had been charged after Bayworld initially declined to press charges.
