A 22-year old Port Elizabeth contract worker from a civil engineering group has died after being buried underground while excavating in Missionvale.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Alwin Labans, says the worker was apparently measuring the depth of the wall when a portion of it gave in, burying him under the rubble.
He says workers were digging trenches to lay water and sewerage pipes at a housing upgrading project when the incident occurred.
