Two men appeared in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates court on Friday for allegedly assaulting and killing a woodcutter last year.
Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the 26-year-old Martin Daniels was admitted to hospital on the 2nd of December 2018 where he died a week later.
She says police at the time opened up an inquest docket, but once a post mortem was done, it was established that Daniels died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Police changed the inquest to a murder investigation and finally made an arrest this week.
During their investigation, it was discovered that Daniels was assaulted in bushes in Marine Drive in Summerstrand.
The 31-year-old Ulrich van Niekerk and the 34-year-old Daniel Swart were arrested on Wednesday.
One was arrested in a shack in the bushes in Driftsands Road in Summerstrand whilst the other was nabbed at a house in Marine drive.
Both of them are also woodcutters and are known in the area.
They will bring a formal bail application on Monday the 29th of April.
Naidu says it is not yet clear what weapon was used to kill Daniels.
