PE woman and grandson arrested for possession of stolen goods

Police in Port Elizabeth have arrested a 58-year-old woman and her 18-year-old son for being in possession of suspected stolen property.

Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the PE flying squad received a tip-off on Monday and swooped in on a house and tavern in New Brighton.

Police searched both areas and confiscated suspected stolen goods in the tavern.

Naidu says they found 10 laptops, perfumes, several pairs of branded shoes, golfing caps, trousers, and several other items which still had price tags on them.

She says the value of the goods is estimated to be around R250 000.

Police detectives are probing a possible link to the business robbery at the Golfer's Club sports store in Newton Park on 11 April 2019.

PE police have arrested two suspects in connection with the Newton Park robbery and recovered stolen property to the value of close on a 120-thousand rand.

Staff were threatened at gunpoint and tied up during last Thursday's incident in which cash, golf shirts, shoes, caps and other clothing to the value of about R650 000 was taken.

The suspects, aged 20 and 33 are being held in custody and are due to appear in the PE Magistrates court on Thursday.
