Port Elizabeth police have arrested two suspects in connection with a recent armed robbery at the Golfer's Club in Newton Park and recovered stolen property to the value of close on a 120-thousand rand.

Staff were threatened at gunpoint and tied up during last Thursday's incident in which cash, golf shirts, shoes, caps and other clothing to the value of about R650 000 was taken,.

Seven suspects then fled in a VW Caddy.

Colonel Priscilla Naidu says that following an intelligence-driven operation, members of several policing units swooped in on a house in Govan Mbeki Township near Kwazakele in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The house was searched and suspected stolen items which included golf shirts, shoes, caps, and pants as well as a  revolver with ammunition was confiscated.

A 20-year-old suspect was arrested.

Colonel Naidu says further investigation led the team to another house in Connacher Street in New Brighton.

More suspected stolen goods were recovered and a 33-year-old man was arrested.

Both suspects are being held in custody and are due to appear in the PE Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
