PE triple murder accused to apply for bail

The suspect who is accused of three violent murders in Port Elizabeth has indicated that he will apply for bail in both cases.

Twenty-one-year-old Vuyani Sefunda made a brief appearance in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's court on Tuesday morning.

Sefunda and his co-accused, 37-year-old Mbuyiseli Pikoli, are charged with the double murder of Schoenmarkerskop couple, Ken Alexander (76) and Elaine Allwright (78).

Sefunda was arrested at the Paterson Magistrate's Court four days after the brutal Schoenmakerskop attack where he was appearing on an unrelated burglary case in the town.

Pikoli, who was arrested a few days after Sefunda, did not appear in court on Tuesday, however, his attorney indicated that he would be abandoning his bid for bail.

Police have also linked the two to the brutal murder of 50-year-old, Tyrone Jantjies, a caretaker who was bludgeoned to death in his caravan at the Forrest Hill cemetery three days before the Schoenmakerskop murders.

Jantjies' younger brother, Lester, told Algoa FM News that his brother was "a soft and caring" person.

He said he hoped that justice would prevail for his brother.

The matter will be back in the PE Magistrate's court on Thursday, 16 November.
