A Port Elizabeth township has been named the worst place in South Africa.
That's according to data from Census 2011.
Statistics South Africa said Silvertown in Kwazakhele in Port Elizabeth was one of the few areas that had not improved since 1994.
Statistician-general, Padi Lehohla, released the low-level geographic data from the 2011 Census in Silvertown on Monday.
He said the data clearly showed that the informal settlement is the worst place in the country.
Silvertown has more than one 1 700 people living in over 500 informal houses and approximately 96% of them still use the bucket toilet system.
Municipal spokesperson, Kupido Baron, was quoted as saying that over-crowding is hampering development of the area.
