The family of a Port Elizabeth youth accused of the rape and murder of a two-year-old toddler has reportedly given instructions to lawyers to abandon a bid for bail.
Algoa FM News has reliably learnt that this was out of concern for the boy's safety should he be released back into the community.
A bail application will be brought once tempers have calmed.
The 16-year-old boy was arrested on Monday and appeared in the Nerina House for Juveniles on Wednesday.
Police said that little Hlumelo Nobebe was playing with other children in Songonolo Street in Soweto-on-Sea on Sunday when he went missing.
His body was later found in a house in Serote Street.
Police then arrested the youth in connection with his death.
