Port Elizabeth police are investigating a case of attempted murder following a shooting in Helenvale on Thursday night.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Alwin Labans says a 14-year old girl was bathing at her home while shots were being fired outside in the street.
Labans says the girls mother discovered her child with a gun shot wound to her stomach.
He says it appears she was hit by a stray bullet that came through a window.
The teenager was taken to hospital and is in a serious condition.
No arrests have been made.
