PE teen dies in shack fire

A Port Elizabeth teenager has died after being trapped inside a burning shack.

Police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge says residents of the Ndulini informal settlement in Kwazekhele heard the desperate screams of the14-year-old Zintle Manganya Zabo and tried to break open the door.

He says the fire spread too quickly and eventually destroyed 20 surrounding shacks, leaving more than 100 residents homeless.

Beeetge says the cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
