Three killed in EC road accidents

Three people were killed in separate accidents on Eastern Cape roads on Monday morning.

The provincial Department of Transport says in the first accident on the N2 between Makhanda and Port Elizabeth just after midnight, the driver of a light motor vehicle with four occupants lost control, and it left the road, ploughed through a fence and overturned.

A woman was ejected from the vehicle and was declared dead by Emergency Medical Services at the scene.

The injured were rushed to hospital in stable to serious condition.

The department says two more fatal accidents were reported on the notorious R61.

One passenger was killed, when a taxi lost control and overturned between Beaufort West and Aberdeen.

Eight passengers were injured.

Another person died when an SUV with 5 occupants lost control and overturned between Cofimbaba and eNgcobo.

Four others were taken to hospital for further medical treatment.

Police are investigating cases of culpable homicide.
