PE suspects arrested in hospital whilst being treated for gunshot wounds

Two men are in police custody after being arrested at a Port Elizabeth hospital where they were being treated for gunshot wounds.

Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the suspects are possibly linked to three separate shooting incidents in the Northern Areas on Saturday night and early on Sunday morning.

Police are investigating seven cases of attempted murder following the shootings.

Naidu says in the first incident a 23-year-old woman was shot in the leg, when unknown men entered her house in Briggs Road and started firing through the closed bedroom door. She was with her boyfriend at the time.

She says nobody was hurt in the other two incidents, but police are investigating attempted murder.

In the second incident a 46-year-old man was sleeping at his house in Gloxina Street in Bethelsdorp when he woke up from shots being fired.

In the third incident, which took place in Bellflower street, a 23-year old man was sleeping with his two brothers when shots were fired at their house.

The two suspects aged 20 and 28 both sustained gunshot wounds to their arms and will appear in court soon.
