A 33-year-old shop owner in Booi Street, Kwazakele has been arrested after shooting and seriously injuring a 12-year-old boy.
Police Spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge says the shop owner and another man became embroiled in a heated argument inside the shop on Sunday.
The owner pulled out a fire arm and shot at the other man, missing him, but hitting the 12-year-old boy in the head.
The child was in the store buying groceries.
Captain Beetge says the boy was taken to Dora Nginza Hospital in a serious condition.
The shop owner was arrested for attempted murder as well as the illegal possession of a fire arm.
A 7.65mm pistol and 23 rounds of ammunition were confiscated and it was discovered that the firearm was reported stolen in George in February this year.
The suspect is due to appear in the New Brighton Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
