A 26 year old security official will appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrate court on Friday on a charge of attempted murder.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu says it is alleged that 28-year-old Sergeant Thembile Gaba from the PE K9 unit attended to a robbery in Summerstrand.
She says the suspected robbers ran through bushes and Gaba and his dog followed the trail, which led towards the Driftsands reservoir.
Naidu says a private security official and Gaba saw a guardhouse on the premises and noticed that someone was inside.
The police official identified himself and beckoned to the guard to open the door.
Naidu says he refused, and as Gaba attempted to open the door, the guard fired a shot at him, wounding him in the shoulder.
He was admitted at St George's Hospital for treatment.
