Schooling returned to normal on Monday in Port Elizabeth's northern areas following protests by learners at Sanctor High School last week.
Dozens of learners, supported by parents, took to the streets on Thursday in ongoing protests against the shortage of teachers at the school.
Burning barricades were set up on parts of Standford Road but no action was taken by police.
Meanwhile, a meeting was held on Friday by respresentatives of 33 school governing bodies to discuss the situation at schools and to find ways to relieve the tension that has been building up.
A spokesperson, Andrew Sauls, says they are waiting to set a date for a meeting with the education department's regional director to discuss the concerns of schools in the northern areas.
