Port Elizabeth police, concerned parents and the leadership from David Livingstone High School in Schauderville have held an emergency meeting at the school premises.
This follows Tuesday's commotion when fights broke out between 'rival gangs'.
Police were deployed to the school to defuse the situation.
School Principal Desmond Grove says the mid-year exams resumed on Wednesday morning and everything is back to normal.
Grove says the whole incident has been mis-construed and that it's not gang violence in the real sense but rather group formations and elements from outside that caused the disruptions.
He says gang related activities do not take place at the school and to his knowledge the learners are not actively involved in gangsterism.
Grove says they are waiting for a response from the Department of Education to provide the school with security guards
