A 30-year-old Port Elizabeth woman will be charged with concealment of birth after she allegedly dumped the decomposing body of a newborn baby in bushes in the Kabega Park area.

The incident happened on the 26th of last month and she was spotted on video getting out of a Haval H1 and throwing a black bag into the bushes before driving off.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the child’s remains were found by a vagrant on the second of this month.

Police issued an appeal to the public on Wednesday and the woman was traced through the vehicle’s registration number to a house in Kwadwesi in Port Elizabeth where a statement was taken.

Naidu says once the investigation is complete, the docket will be sent to the senior public prosecutor for a decision.

She says they’re also still waiting for the outcome of a post mortem.
