Port Elizabeth police have arrested a 24-year-old man and seized several firearms as well as bulletproof vests following a raid on a house in Kuyga this week.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg said the operation on Friday was conducted by SAPS Kabega Park and members of the Anti-Gang Unit.

“Upon searching the premises the members recovered and confiscated two bulletproof vests from private security companies, three rifles, two 9mm pistol, ammunition and holsters.”

She said the suspect was arrested on charges of the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and for the possession of suspected stolen property.

The firearms would be sent for ballistic analysis.

Janse Van Rensburg said that the suspect would appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate Court on Monday.
