Four people were killed and three others were injured in an accident between a VW Polo and a minibus taxi on the N2 near Mthatha on Saturday morning.
The Eastern Cape Transport Department says a minibus taxi collided with a VW Polo.
Spokesperson, Khuselwa Rantjie says three occupants from the Polo and one person from the minibus were declared dead at the scene.
She says three others from the taxi, including the driver, were transported to hospital for medical care.
Rantjie says the two vehicles were travelling in the same direction when the incident happened.
She says it was reported that the minibus taxi was stationery, loading passengers, when the Polo collided into it.
It is suspected that drunk driving may have contributed to the incident, as alcohol bottles were found inside the sedan.
Local authorities are investigating.
