Port Elizabeth police are searching for the mother of a six-week-old baby girl who was found abandoned in Walmer Township.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the child was found in bushes by a couple who were walking home from church on Sunday afternoon,
Naidu said the little girl was wrapped in a blanket with a bag lying next to her. She said medication found in the bag had her mother's name written on it.
Police have identified the mother as Phelokazi Gxoyiya.
"The child's mother was identified from the label that was on one of the medicine bottles. We are appealing to anyone who may know the mother to contact us or alert the police. We do believe that she may be somewhere in the Addo area," Naidu said.
Naidu said anyone with information can contact Constable Timothy Minyayo from the PE FCS unit on 071 475 1731.
