Members of the National Intervention Unit have launched a manhunt for one of Port Elizabeth's most wanted suspects on Tuesday, which resulted in him being gunned down by police.
A police spokesperson told Algoa FM News that the members were following up on information on the 26-year-old Shakur Mohammed, affiliated with the Spotbouer gang.
He was shot and killed at about 9.30 am as he was running away to evade arrest.
Mohammed was wanted for a murder in Dinsmore Street in Schauderville in February.
The suspect was spotted in Blesbok Street in Gelvandale and when he saw the police he fled, reportedly with a gun in his hand.
Police said in Hartebees Street the man allegedly pointed the firearm at police who fired a shot, wounding the man who then died of his injuries on the scene.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate has been informed of the shooting.
