A warrant of arrest has been issued for African National Congress (ANC) councillor and convicted fraudster Bongo Nombiba.
Nombiba had until 3 pm on Friday to report to the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court Clerk to start his sentence but failed to do so.
Nombiba lost his application for special leave to appeal against his fraud and corruption conviction and a five-year jail sentence at the Supreme Court of Appeal last month.
He also attended a council meeting last month with the ANC claiming that he had a right to be there as he was given time to approach the SCA for reconsideration.
Nombiba refused to comment at the council meeting on whether or not he would take the matter forward or he would hand himself over and finally start serving his sentence.
