Police in Port Elizabeth were summoned to Mbeleni Street in New Brighton this morning where residents burnt tyres, complaining that their illegal electricity connections have been cut,.
Nelson Mandela Bay municipality spokesperson, Kupido Baron, says they happened on the illegal connections during an investigation into the illegal renting of RDP houses in New Brighton.
Baron says the officials did their duty by dismantling the illegal connections sparking a major backlash from residents.
"We cannot allow these illegal connections so we will continue with our efforts to ensure that we make suburbs safe for kids and people who walk the streets" Baron said.
