A Westering resident has opened a case with Port Elizabeth police, following an alleged assault by workers from service provider, AMAT.
Earlier this year, AMAT was appointed by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to develop strategies to curb electricity theft, which is costing the Metro millions in revenue.
Resident, Sherita Ellappen, says earlier this week, the workers came to her house to check for illegal connections.
At the time, she was not at home and the workers demanded entry from her young daughters.
She says upon her arrival, she became suspicious, as they had a previous visit regarding electricity connections just a month ago.
Ellappen added that the men got aggressive when she asked for identification, and they fled in an AMAT branded vehicle when she called a security company for help.
"I thought let me call my husband and see what he would say about this. I started to dial my husband's number and he hit the phone out of my hand. The phone fell and came into pieces. When he did that, I told my little daughter to press the panic alarm and let ADT rather came, but when I did that and they heard ADT was coming they got into the car and left." says Ellappen.
