PE school pickets over teacher shortages

Parents from Zanoxolo Primary School in Port Elizabeth on Thursday picketed outside the regional office of the Deparment of Education in Sidwell.

The chairperson of the School Governing Body, Thembikile Jonga, says parents closed the school last week because there are no teachers for grades five and six learners.

He says they are angry and feel that their children's right to education is being violated.

Jonga says the school will remain closed until the department responds to their demands.

"We are demanding a Deputy Principal, an HOD, a groundsman, a clerk. We are saying the department has not advertised posts, the department must employ temporary teachers because there are learners without teachers." says Jonga.
