A Port Elizabeth policewoman has been arrested for allegedly trying to extort money from a fraud suspect.
The 33-year-old constable from the Gelvandale police station was arrested during a sting operation on Thursday.
The unit commander for the Port Elizabeth organised crime unit, colonel Hyron Booysen, says she will appear in court soon.
Its alleged that the constable had approached the fraud suspect with an offer to quash his case in exchange for R1600.
Booysen says the suspect reported the matter and the policewoman was arrested in Kabega Park.
