PE policeman shot dead, 3 suspected hijackers arrested

Port Elizabeth police arrested three suspected hijackers in the early hours of Sunday morning, after a policeman was shot dead and another wounded on the N2 near Kinklebos.

Spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge says the police members tried to pull over a suspicious looking Corsa bakkie, but it failed to stop, and a high speed chase ensued.

He says the bakkie later stopped, and when the policemen confronted the five men, shots were fired, hitting one of the policemen in the head.

He died at the scene.

Beetge says they hope to arrest the other two suspects soon.
