Port Elizabeth police have issued a warning to the public using the R-334 which runs from Coega past Motherwell to Uitenhage after two women were hijacked recently.
The first incident occurred on the 4th of this month.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Thembi Gwe, says the latest incident occurred on Friday when a woman was tied up in the bushes and assaulted while the assailants went to an ATM to draw money from her bank account.
"We were told that they tied up her hands and feet and assaulted her until she gave them her pin numbers. She was taken to hospital for treatment. Both vehicles were recovered.
Gwe says the modus operandi is for the attackers to herd stray animals into the road and when motorists slow down or stop, they are attacked.
"We would like to warn the public when they see these people approaching them to be more cautious and to report stray animals" she said
That number is 079 490 0540 to report stray animals on the road.
